University of Manitoba

A long-standing client, the University of Manitoba approached us with a mandate to redefine how its brand reflected its aspirations. It needed to better express its place as a global research institution while honouring its deep commitments to inclusion, Indigenous achievement, and reconciliation. The challenge wasn’t just to update a logo—it was to find a symbol that could carry the weight of the past while signalling a better, more inclusive future.

ProjectVisual Identity Year2019

Over a two-year process, we listened to more than 7,000 voices from across the university community—students, alumni, faculty, staff, and partners. The resulting design emerged from what we heard: a desire to retain a sense of legacy while creating something bolder, more progressive, and more inclusive.

This project lives at the intersection of legacy and transformation—a visual identity that honours two histories and invites a shared future.

Original logo design concept and design by Ron Sawchuk. Final logo design execution by Brent Morrisseau
