Rapid Transit
In the early planning stages of Winnipeg’s new rapid transit network, debate swirled around whether the system should be light rail or bus-based rapid transit. While bus rapid transit ultimately prevailed, the identity needed to transcend any sense of compromise. It had to feel forward-looking, deliberate, and capable of growing into something more.
The resulting symbol is rooted in classic identity thinking: graphic, economical, and meaningful. It begins with a single red form—a rounded right angle that evokes a lowercase “r.” That same shape appears in blue, rotated 90 degrees to form a “t” through overlap. Together, they create a directional diagram with a subtle nod to transit maps—radiating in all four directions but anchored in a circle, symbolizing the network’s concentrated service within Winnipeg.

The custom logotype complements the symbol, echoing its geometry while stretching in a gesture of speed. Combined, the symbol and logotype form a compact, high-contrast signature—designed to perform as confidently on a windswept station pylon as it does in a digital interface.
Following the logo’s launch, Winnipeg Transit aligned the Blue line with the “t” of the system’s North–South corridor. Future East–West expansions are planned as the Red line, completing the narrative already encoded in the mark.
To support the rollout, the City requested a bold launch campaign—something that would speak to drivers, not just existing riders. With dedicated routes eliminating traffic delays, we positioned Rapid Transit like a high-performance vehicle: highlighting speed, comfort, and style. The tagline, “Your city in fast forward,” tied the service to the broader story of Winnipeg’s accelerating infrastructure growth.
